Work spaces and facilities

You can make adjustments to your workplace environment to discourage people from smoking or remind them it's not allowed.

  • Remove any outdoor smoking areas (remember all indoor work areas must be smokefree by law), and extend the smokefree environment to any off-site work areas.
  • Put up smokefree signage around the workplace, including places people might congregate to smoke (such as building entrances and in vehicles), to remind them smoking isn’t allowed.
  • Offer replacement activities to smoking. For example, a table tennis table or dart board in the break area will give people something else to do during breaks.
  • Enforce smokefree work vehicles. By law, work vehicles must be smokefree, unless everyone who shares a work vehicle agrees it’s okay to smoke in the vehicle.
