Health Literacy Month is a time for organisations and individuals to promote the importance of understandable health information.
This annual, worldwide, awareness-raising event has been going since 1999.
As people spend 60% of their day at work, the workplace is the ideal classroom to promote health literacy.
The theme for Health Literacy Month is “Be a Health Literacy Hero". Health Literacy Heroes are individuals, teams, or organisations who not only identify health literacy problems but also act to solve them.
You can help by recognising and cheering on those you consider as Health Literacy Heroes. See the global health literacy website for more information on how you can acknowledge your health heroes.
For a New Zealand perspective on health literacy, see the healthliteracy.org.nz website.
